Kona Steel Guitar Festival
Joey Misailidis

Joey Misailidis

Joey has enjoyed Hawaiian music from an early age. She particularly admired the music of Aunty Genoa Keawe, and dreamed of playing beautiful Hawaiian music on the steel guitar. Joey has been fortunate to have the opportunity to study the steel guitar under the guidance of Kumu Alan Akaka.

Joey, now 18, graduated from Punahou. She now attends Cornell University and is on their swimming team. She has been studying steel guitar for five years and is one of the Ke Kula Mele NextGen alumni steel guitar players.

When she is not playing the steel guitar, Joey immerses herself in her other interests: competitive swimming, Hawaiian voyaging, surfing, being in nature, and spending time with her ‘ohana.
